For Earth Day 2026, organize your own screening of in love with a problem, a powerful short documentary about youth innovation, science, and solutions to one of the most urgent environmental challenges of our time: plastic pollution.

If plastic pollution were a country, it would be one of the largest contributors to environmental degradation on the planet, clogging waterways, harming wildlife, and entering our food systems and bodies. Yet this film reminds us that bold, science-driven solutions are possible.

in love with a problem (directed by Julie Kim) follows teenage innovators Miranda Wang and Jeanny Yao as they journey from high school in Vancouver to Silicon Valley, developing bacteria-based technology to break down plastic waste.

In love with a problem is about two innovative teens that discovered a plastic-eating bacteria in Vancouver’s Fraser River. Passionate about the problem of plastic pollution, these two best friends are now on an inspiring journey to solve it. Their dedication has taken them from bacteria to cutting edge chemistry, originating in Vancouver all the way to the Silicon Valley. Their story has illuminated one of our earth’s biggest eco disasters.
