Farm-to-Plate Marketplace

Farm-to-Plate Marketplace is a tool for communities to use to empower themselves to collectively support local food producers. Through the platform’s transparency, communities can better understand and address the challenges of our food system and tackle food insecurity. F2PM encourages eating locally and seasonally, promotes community development, and facilitates communal problem solving. Food is a powerful connector that can bring people together to better understand and support one another.

Vancouver Food Runners

At Vancouver Food Runners, our mission is to respond to the unfortunate disconnect between the fact that 58% of all food produced in Canada is wasted or lost, while one in seven households in British Columbia are food insecure. Our aim is to prevent perfectly good food from entering the waste stream – where it will negatively harm our environment – and instead redirect it to nonprofits in Vancouver that work with the most vulnerable members of our community. We believe good food belongs to people, not landfills!

Second Harvest

At Second Harvest, we recognize that we can’t change what we don’t know. For us, knowing means conducting research about food loss and waste and our food landscape in Canada. By understanding where and how food is wasted, as well as where it is used across the supply chain, we are better equipped to manage this food.

Our research has garnered the attention of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the Government of Canada, and other like-minded groups. It has been shared by nationally and internationally respected news outlets including Forbes, Courrier International, the Globe and Mail, the National Post, CBC, CTV and more.

We’re proud to share our research with the world, so that everyone can leverage the information we’ve gained to make effective, lasting change.
