About Story Money Impact

Story Money Impact (SMI) is a Canadian registered charity that helps documentary films make a real-world difference. We connect filmmakers, changemakers, and audiences through campaigns that inspire action, deepen understanding, and build community.

We’re looking for a creative, detail-oriented person to join our small but mighty team as our Impact and Communications Coordinator. This role supports both our film impact campaigns and organizational communications — helping us share powerful Canadian stories and engage audiences across the country.

Position Summary

The Impact and Communications Coordinator plays a key role in organizing and promoting SMI’s outreach, educational, and impact activities. This position combines event coordination, communications, research, strategy, digital organizing, and partnership outreach, working closely with the Impact Director, Executive Director, and filmmakers.

This is a remote position open to candidates across Canada. Some travel within Canada may be required for in-person events and screenings.

The work we do involves many communities and issues. Many of our films are from underrepresented communities and cover topics that require cultural or trauma informed care. How we approach our work takes sensitivity and humility, and the ability to humbly learn in action.

Additionally, we are a very small team, so tasks and roles can shift around depending on workloads. This type of flexibility requires an adaptive approach rather than fixed job definitions. Together, we get the job done, and we try and look after each other as we do so.
